300,000 people take part in group yoga class to mark International Yoga Day 2017

Yoga events and Yoga classes are taking place around the globe today to celebrate International Yoga Day 2017!

The annual event is taking place today, and will see special Yoga workshops, classes and events happening worldwide for all to enjoy.

Already, a 24 new world records have been set in India for group Yoga events, including the largest Yoga Chain of more than 8000 students and the largest ever group yoga practice of other 300,000 people nationwide!

Today marks the third International Yoga Day since it's conception in 2014, after the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had it approved by the U.N.

In his address to the U.N, Mr Modi said;

“Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and actions; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between a man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being”.

This year's theme is 'Yoga For Health' and yoga certainly does have a lot of health benefits. It's particularly good for stress and flexibility! This theme was chosen to 'highlight the fact that yoga can contribute in a holistic way to achieving equilibrium between mind and body.'.

Yoga teachers and Yoga Studios worldwide are hosting these one-off events to encourage more people to learn and participate in yoga.
